Short Film Director

Based in Dallas, Texas, Derrick Robert Brown works throughout the DFW metroplex and abroad as a multimedia director and performer. As director he recently completed filming Mark Adamo's Lysistrata in a feature length film with Pittsburgh Festival Opera; he led the same team in Opera Without Walls: The Fermata Films, a six part Opera project filmed in isolation, summer of 2020. Locally, Derrick wrote and directed The Last Haw, a silent western short film, with Lumedia Musicworks. Most recently, he wrote and directed another short, Don't Look Back, with Lumedia 2021. 

Off-screen, Derrick has worked as a stage director, most notably having directed The University Of Texas Arlington's reimagined The Pirates of Penzance. He's worked in the north east to present Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Scandals!, a new Puccini revue. He's also worked as an ensemble movement coach for classes and professional ensembles in DFW.

Derrick has worked as a singer and performer with various North Texas musical ensembles. Most notably, he has been a featured soloist with the Verdigris Ensemble since 2018, and as a member of their educational outreach program. He has worked as a concert MC and speaker for local groups, including Mélange Musical in Grapevine, and the Mansfield Philharmonic. He's been a part of concerts and experimental productions since 2017, including venues such as parking lots, convenience stores, and movie theaters.
